ABOUT US
True.Useful.Kind is a new organisation, founded in 2017, dedicated to encouraging everyone, regardless of race, religion, gender identity, nationality, or sexual orientation, to combat the growing aggression, hostility, and misinformation online by thinking before they post.
At True.Useful.Kind, we are dedicated to fighting abuse online, which is increasingly occurring in the modern world. Our campaign aims to encourage everyone to keep the values of respect, kindness, and truth at the heart of the online world, as well as warn attackers of the consequences of their actions. We want people to both offer and expect kindness online.
The name "True.Useful.Kind" was chosen in honour of the famous saying "Is it true? Is it useful? Is it kind?", attributed to Buddha, Socrates, and poet Rumi, who asked their followers to think about these questions before speaking about others. At True.Useful.Kind, we want to bring back this type of thinking, which will encourage people to think before they type and reduce the amount of abuse that happens as a result of people not thinking about the consequences of their comments and actions.
THE POSTERS
As well as this website, the second half of our campaign is the three poster designs, which are similar to the website as they have the same goal of reducing online abuse, but are different to the website as this goal is communicated in different ways; the website is more community-orientated whereas the posters are more graphic and serious.
These posters can be seen in secondary schools and universities, where their target audience of teenagers and young adults will be able to see them and reflect on how they treat their fellow classmates.
